Students Want Sexual Assault Awareness

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State University students interviewed other students on what their definition of sexual assault is and what the university should do to reduce the number of incidents on campus on Tuesday, April 2.
Several students were asked to explain their definition of sexual assault.
Along with their opinions on how good of a job the university is doing in reducing the numbers of sexual assaults on campus.
“ I would define it as a male or female forcing themselves on someone, in an inappropriate way,” said Zane Platt, an incoming freshman at Texas State University.
Among some of the questions that were asked was what could they do to try and prevent sexual assault from occurring to them or others.
“I believe you always need to be aware of your surroundings. As well as making sure you can trust the people you are with. It’s important to be safe,” said Larissa Williams, a junior at Texas State University.
Another student, Janna Stevens, was asked what should Texas State University do to discourage/condemn sexual assault, and how they better help the victims on campus.
“For victims, have an on-campus counselor. To prevent depending on the severity of the crime, offenders should be either suspended, expelled or arrested,” said Stevens.
