Students Voice Opinion on Sexual Assault
By Aubry Burttschell
SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State students interview multiple people to learn more preventatives for sexual assaults Sunday, March 31, 2019.
Media writing students interviewed other students and professors from multiple universities asking their definition of sexual assault, personal experiences, and preventative methods.
"I would define sexual assault as any unwanted physical or verbal aggression or advances that are non-consensual and pertain to the body or sexuality,” said Lynee Herrera, Denver Colorado student.
Many people have been or know someone that has been sexually abused or assaulted.
“When my wife was younger, she was sexually assaulted by her cousin, and during my time as a professor, a couple of my students came to me and confided in me that they were sexually assaulted following a college party where alcohol was involved,” said Thomas McBryde, 40.
Students were asked what they could do, personally, to prevent sexual assault.
Janna Stevens says she could voice her concerns more on sexual assault and define boundaries between people she encounters.
