Speak Out About Sexual Assault
By Frank Arredondo
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State University student reporter
interviewed students and staff, to define sexual assault, share experiences and
discuss improvements on student’s safety at Texas State University on Tuesday,
April 2.
Sariah Gonzales, a Texas State University senior digital media innovation
major defines sexual assault in her own terms.
“Sexual assault is defined when a person sexually touches
another person without that person's consent” said Gonzales.
Freshman percussion education major, Patrick Doyle, informs us how
he avoids these types of situations.
“I
personally just try to avoid people that follow in those kinds of crowds, which
means I also pay attention to patterns that show up from person to person so I
know who to avoid,” said Doyle.
Over the past few years, Texas State University
has had many encounters in regard to sexual assault, and Travis Davis, a male
student offers a solution on how to reduce sexual misconduct.
"Texas State can have support groups or
private meetings for people that have been sexually assaulted that want to talk
it out, which might encourage people to come forward," said Davis.
Nursing Major Justin Evans briefly speaks out on
his behalf of encountering with sexual assault and how he interprets it.
“Definitely. But it’s like at the moment it can
at times be not perceived as such. Of course, in certain situations it is
assault, but our generation may not brand it like that,” said Evans.
